Aims and Ethos

Mission Statement:

We aim to give our members the opportunity to enjoy their recreation time, making their own decisions and being free to do what they want in a safe, fun and happy environment.

Young people with disabilities and special needs miss out on many of the experiences that most young people are able to enjoy. It is much more difficult for young people with high support needs to enjoy informal activities such as going to the park with friends, and they face barriers in accessing other leisure activities too. Mainstream activities are often inaccessible to people with various disabilities, and many organised activity programmes cannot accomodate young people with high support needs.

Many young people with high support needs rarely have the opportunity to choose their own activities and socialise away from family or teachers. This is an important aspect of growing up, arguably even more so for young people with support needs but young people with multiple and complex disabilities have particular difficulty accessing these opportunities.

We have a child-centred ethos and encourage members to make their own choices, supported and enabled by staff and volunteers. We aim to give young people with special needs the opportunity to chose their own activities and socialise with their friends in a safe and fun recreational environment.

We try to make sure that the service we provide matches the needs of members and their families. Members are encouraged to tell us their favourite activities, and any ideas for new things to try. Our activities are the only source of accessible leisure and recreation for many young people with special needs in North Wiltshire during the summer holidays, and our high staff ratio and child-centred ethos enable members to be supervised and supported in their chosen activities.
