Outings

Outings are an important part of our activities because the high individual support and access needs of our members, as well as the additional costs associated with disability, make it difficult or impossible for families to organise outings.

We have at least one full day outing for each group, and the older group spends more time out and about - although they usually have a Clown Disco too by special request!

We organise at least one day out for each group, to places that are accessible to people with disabilities and enjoyable for members with a range of interests and abilities. We hire wheelchair accessible coaches and always have fun singing on the journey!

Cotswold Farm Park always look after us incredibly well - as well as looking around at all the animals and feeding some of them, we have the opportunity to go on a tractor ride, play on the adventure playground, listen to a talk and sometimes have the opportunity to bottle-feed the baby animals. There are lots of play attractions that the young people can enjoy too.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is always a full and exciting day. There are so many animals to see, a play area, a train and we often have a talk by the keepers as well. The otters, Meercats, monkeys and penguins are great favourites.

Bristol Zoo is a thoroughly enjoyable day out. The penguins and seals are always popular and there are many other animals to see too. We all meet up for a picnic lunch where there is often a talk and animal display.

Bristol Zoo also kindly give us access to their first aid room to enable us to administer any medication and change pads etc in a private and dignified way.

This summer we went to Slimbridge, which was a great success. We enjoyed feeding some of the birds and we hope to return for more visits in the future.

Noah's Ark Zoo Farm is another fun and accessible place to go. There are lots of animals and we had a good day out there.
